Aquablation is one of the newer treatments for BPH (enlarged prostate), where the surgeon uses ultrasound to map out the prostate in real time, and programs a high pressure water jet to ablate / remove obstructive tissue in a specific area. This is a modern and precise way of performing the "roto-rooter" or trans urethral resection of prostate (TURP) that many men are familiar with.

The largest advantage of Aquablation is that it has a rate of ejaculation sparing of >90%. This is through special programming by the surgeon when making the cuts at the apex of the prostate.

While aquablation can be performed outpatient for many patients, it is not uncommon to need to stay overnight in the hospital, requiring bladder irrigation due to mild prostatic bleeding from the procedure. Most patients then go home the next day without a catheter.
